Friday
Mid-term Examination.
Evaluation provides each student multiple opportunities to demonstrate incremental skill development over discrete segments of material. It provides feedback for both  teaching and learning. The evaluation is cumulative, including all previous material plus the most recent week's new material. The examinations will be similar to your daily assignments both in terms of content and in terms of format. For the listening part you will hear a passage either from ATS or BB and then answer a couple of questions. For speaking you and I will have a 15 minute convesation on  one of the topics discussed in class. Reading tasks will be reading a passage and answering questions about the passage, or translation. There will also be test items similar to those of the BB exercises that assess your reading and writing achievements. The following is a list of the topics for our speaking part.

1. Tell a childhood story and discuss how you were different from other kids.

2. Describe a person that you adore or detest and explain why.

3. Discuss what characterize an effective salesperson and explain why you don't want/or want be be one.

4. Discuss what is an idea occupation/profession for a new college gratuate like you.

5. Talk about your most favorite restaurant and explain why you like it most.

The criterion for evaluating your speaking performance is to see how well you can accomplish the specified communicative tasks that require the following. 1. Good pronunciation and intonation, a good way for preparing for this is to listen to and repeat after the recordings.  2. Accuracy of use of vocabulary and grammatical patterns, a good technique for preparation is to practice the patterns with Guo laoshi or a classmate and make corrections whenever necessary.  It is easy to read and understand the explanation in the text, but UNDERSTANDING the notes cannot ensure your accurate USE of the vocabulary and grammatical patterns.  3) Fluency, which does not equal speed; a fluent conversation should be natural, interactive and meaningful. 4) Quantity, which means you should always try and use as many as you can of the words and grammatical patterns we have learned so far.
