Math 6 Homework Assignment #11

Interval Estimation

The Behavior of Confidence Intervals (A Minitab Activity)

1. Simulate the drawing of 50 simple random samples of size n=100 from a N(0, 1) population.

Calc > Random Data > Normal

2. Calculate a 90% confidence interval for the population mean for each of your 50 samples.

Stat > Basic Statistics > 1-Sample Z

3. Verify the computer's calculations by checking the interval given for the first sample (c1).

4. How many of your 50 confidence intervals contained the true population mean (mu=0)?

5. If you repeated this process again, how many of the 50 confidence intervals would you expect to include the true population mean (mu=0)?
